Unit History
The 34th Infantry Regiment was constituted on 1 July 1916 in the Regular Army and organized on 15 July 1916 at El Paso, Texas. The regiment participated in the Mexican Border service before being assigned to the 7th Division in December 1917. During World War I, the 34th Infantry Regiment served in France but did not see combat as a unit. In World War II, the regiment was assigned to the 24th Infantry Division and participated in the Pacific Theater, including campaigns in New Guinea, Leyte, and Luzon. After the war, the regiment served in the occupation of Japan and later participated in the Korean War, where it was involved in several major campaigns. The 34th Infantry Regiment has continued to serve in various capacities, including assignments in the United States and overseas.
