3 Brigade New York State Guard 1940–1947 (World War II) The 3rd Brigade, New York State Guard, was organized during World War II as part of the New York State Guard, which replaced the New York National Guard when the latter was federalized for wartime service. The State Guard’s primary mission was to provide internal security, protect critical infrastructure, and support civil authorities within New York State. The 3rd Brigade, along with other State Guard units, conducted training, guarded key facilities, and ensured readiness to respond to emergencies on the home front.
