13th Corps 1940–1947 (World War II) The XIII Corps was activated on 7 December 1942 at Fort McClellan, Alabama. Assigned to the European Theater of Operations, the corps played a significant role in the final campaigns of World War II. XIII Corps participated in the Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe campaigns, advancing through France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and into Germany. The corps was instrumental in the crossing of the Rhine River and the subsequent drive into the heart of Germany, contributing to the encirclement and defeat of German forces in the Ruhr Pocket.
