The battalion was organized to provide mobile anti-aircraft protection for ground units and critical installations against enemy aircraft. Throughout the war, the unit was equipped with automatic weapons such as the 40mm Bofors and 20mm cannons, and it participated in several campaigns, primarily in the European Theater of Operations.
