Unit History

The 969th Field Artillery Battalion was constituted on 15 July 1942 in the Army of the United States and activated on 1 August 1942 at Camp Gruber, Oklahoma. The battalion served in the European Theater during World War II, participating in several major campaigns including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. The 969th provided critical artillery support to Allied forces, notably during the Battle of the Bulge. After the end of hostilities in Europe, the battalion was inactivated on 1 November 1945 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey.
