969 Field Artillery Battalion 1940–1947 (World War II) The 969th Field Artillery Battalion was constituted on 15 July 1942 and activated on 1 August 1942 at Camp Gruber, Oklahoma. Equipped as a 155mm howitzer battalion, it deployed to the European Theater during World War II. The battalion participated in several major campaigns, including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. Notably, the 969th provided critical artillery support during the Battle of the Bulge, contributing to the defense of Bastogne. The battalion was inactivated on 26 November 1945 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey, following the end of hostilities in Europe.
