8th Engineer Squadron (Combat) 1940–1947 (World War II) The 8th Engineer Squadron (Combat) was constituted on 1 October 1933 in the Regular Army as the 8th Engineer Squadron and activated on 1 June 1941 at Fort Bliss, Texas. During World War II, the unit was redesignated as the 8th Engineer Combat Squadron and assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division. The squadron participated in major campaigns in the Pacific Theater, including the Bismarck Archipelago, Leyte, Luzon, and the Southern Philippines. The 8th Engineer Combat Squadron played a critical role in supporting division operations by constructing bridges, clearing obstacles, and enabling mobility for advancing forces. Following the end of hostilities, the squadron was inactivated on 25 March 1949 in Japan.
