299th Infantry Regiment 1940–1947 (World War II) The 299th Infantry Regiment was constituted on 4 September 1942 in the Army of the United States and activated on 15 September 1942 at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. The regiment was assigned to the 93rd Infantry Division, a segregated African American unit. During World War II, the 299th Infantry Regiment deployed to the Pacific Theater, participating in operations in New Guinea and the Northern Solomons. The regiment contributed to the division’s combat and security missions in these areas. Following the end of hostilities, the 299th Infantry Regiment was inactivated on 3 February 1946 at Camp Stoneman, California.
