The 299th Infantry Regiment was constituted in the National Guard of the United States and organized in the Territory of Hawaii. The regiment was federally recognized on 6 January 1923. During World War II, the 299th Infantry Regiment was activated for federal service and participated in the defense of Hawaii following the attack on Pearl Harbor. Elements of the regiment were involved in the defense and security of the Hawaiian Islands throughout the war.
