Unit History

The 28th Infantry Regiment was constituted on 2 February 1901 in the Regular Army and organized on 3 March 1901 at Vancouver Barracks, Washington. The regiment participated in the Philippine Insurrection shortly after its formation. During World War I, the 28th Infantry Regiment was assigned to the 1st Division and took part in major campaigns including Cantigny, Soissons, St. Mihiel, and Meuse-Argonne. In World War II, the regiment fought in North Africa, Sicily, and the European Theater, including the Normandy landings and the Battle of the Bulge.
