22nd Field Artillery Regiment 1940–1947 (World War II) The 22nd Field Artillery Regiment was originally constituted in the Regular Army on 1 July 1916 and organized at Fort Bliss, Texas. During World War II, elements of the regiment served as part of the 4th Infantry Division. The regiment underwent several reorganizations and redesignations, with battalions serving in various artillery roles. The unit participated in major campaigns in the European Theater, including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. Following the end of hostilities, the regiment’s elements were inactivated in 1946 as part of the postwar drawdown. 1948–1957 (Early Cold War / Korea) During the early Cold War period, the 22nd Field Artillery Regiment was reactivated and reorganized as part of the Army’s evolving divisional artillery structure. Its battalions continued to serve in training and readiness roles, supporting the Army’s commitments during the Korean War era, though the regiment itself was not deployed as a whole to Korea.
