Unit History

The 22nd Field Artillery Regiment was constituted on 1 July 1916 in the Regular Army as the 22nd Field Artillery and organized on 1 June 1917 at Camp Wilson, Texas. The regiment was assigned to the 8th Division in December 1917 and later relieved from this assignment in September 1919. The unit was inactivated on 2 January 1922 at Camp Bragg, North Carolina. It was later reactivated and underwent several reorganizations and redesignations throughout its history, serving in various capacities during World War II and the Cold War. The regiment has provided artillery support in multiple campaigns and has been an integral part of the U.S. Army’s field artillery branch.
