Unit History

The 129th Infantry Regiment was first organized in 1917 as part of the Illinois National Guard and assigned to the 33rd Division. The regiment was federalized for service in World War I, participating in major campaigns including the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. After the war, the unit was demobilized but later reorganized in the National Guard. During World War II, the 129th Infantry Regiment was again activated and served in the Pacific Theater, notably in the New Guinea and Luzon campaigns.
