Unit History

The 14th Infantry Regiment was first constituted on 3 May 1861 in the Regular Army as the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry, and organized on 1 July 1861 at Fort Trumbull, Connecticut. The regiment participated in numerous campaigns during the American Civil War, including the Peninsula, Manassas, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, and Appomattox campaigns. After the Civil War, the regiment served in the Indian Wars, the Spanish-American War, the Philippine Insurrection, and both World Wars. During World War II, the 14th Infantry Regiment fought in the Aleutian Islands, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe campaigns. The regiment also served in the Korean War, participating in several major campaigns. In more recent history, elements of the regiment have served in operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
