Unit History

14th Engineer Regiment (Philippine Scouts) 1940–1947 (World War II) The 14th Engineer Regiment (Philippine Scouts) was constituted in the Army of the United States on 1 October 1940 and activated at Fort William McKinley, Philippine Islands. As part of the Philippine Scouts, the regiment was composed primarily of Filipino enlisted personnel under American officers. During World War II, the 14th Engineers played a critical role in the defense of the Philippines, constructing fortifications, roads, and other military infrastructure. The regiment participated in the defense of Bataan and Corregidor, enduring the hardships of the campaign until the surrender of U.S. forces in May 1942. Many members of the regiment became prisoners of war and suffered during the Bataan Death March and subsequent captivity. The unit was inactivated following the fall of the Philippines and was not reconstituted after the war.
