The IX Corps was first constituted on 29 July 1921 in the Organized Reserves and activated on 1 October 1933 at San Francisco, California. During World War II, IX Corps was ordered into active military service on 1 August 1940 and participated in the Pacific Theater, including campaigns in New Guinea, Leyte, and Luzon. After the war, the Corps was inactivated on 30 March 1946 in Japan. It was reactivated on 10 August 1950 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois, and deployed to Korea, where it played a significant role in the Korean War, participating in several major campaigns.
