Unit History
The 9th Coast Artillery Regiment was constituted on 27 February 1924 as part of the Regular Army and organized on 1 July 1924 at Fort Banks, Massachusetts. The regiment was assigned to the Harbor Defenses of Boston, tasked with the operation and maintenance of coastal artillery batteries designed to protect the harbor from naval threats. Throughout its service, the 9th Coast Artillery Regiment was responsible for manning fixed gun emplacements, searchlights, and fire control stations as part of the broader coastal defense network. During World War II, the regiment continued its mission of harbor defense, adapting to evolving threats and technological advancements. The unit was inactivated on 1 April 1945 as the need for coastal artillery diminished with the end of the war and changes in military strategy.
