Unit History

The 63rd Field Artillery Battalion was originally constituted on 5 July 1918 in the National Army as the 63rd Field Artillery and assigned to the 17th Division. It was organized on 10 September 1918 at Camp Bowie, Texas, but was demobilized on 9 February 1919 at the same location. The unit was reconstituted on 1 October 1933 in the Regular Army as the 63rd Field Artillery. It was activated on 1 June 1941 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and later reorganized and redesignated on 1 March 1943 as the 63rd Field Artillery Battalion. During World War II, the battalion participated in several campaigns, including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe.
