Unit History

The 62nd Coast Artillery Regiment (Anti-Aircraft) was constituted in the Regular Army on 10 December 1917 and organized on 15 January 1918 at Fort Totten, New York. Initially formed as a heavy artillery regiment, it was later designated for anti-aircraft duties. The regiment served in various capacities during World War I and was demobilized in 1919. It was reconstituted and activated several times between the wars, reflecting the evolving needs of U.S. coastal and anti-aircraft defense. During World War II, the 62nd Coast Artillery Regiment (Anti-Aircraft) was reorganized and its elements served in the defense of key locations, including the continental United States and overseas territories, providing anti-aircraft protection against enemy air attacks. The regiment underwent several redesignations and inactivations as the U.S. Army’s air defense structure evolved during and after the war. Sources: Wikipedia.
