Unit History
The 6th Coast Artillery Regiment was constituted on 27 February 1924 in the Regular Army and organized on 1 July 1924 at Fort Winfield Scott, California. The regiment was assigned to the Harbor Defenses of San Francisco, providing coastal defense for the San Francisco Bay area. Its primary mission was to man and operate the fixed seacoast artillery batteries that protected the harbor from potential naval threats. The regiment was responsible for the operation of large-caliber guns, searchlights, and fire control equipment. During World War II, the 6th Coast Artillery Regiment continued its harbor defense duties, adapting to evolving threats and technological advancements. The regiment was inactivated on 1 October 1944 as part of the Army’s reorganization of coastal defense forces.
