Unit History

The 57th Infantry Regiment was originally constituted in the Regular Army on 1 October 1917 and organized at Camp Wilson, Texas. The regiment was assigned to the Philippine Division and served in the Philippines during World War II. The 57th Infantry Regiment is most noted for its defense of the Bataan Peninsula during the Japanese invasion in 1941-1942. After months of resistance, the regiment was forced to surrender with the rest of the division in April 1942. The unit was inactivated following the fall of the Philippines and later reconstituted after the war. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/57th_Infantry_Regiment_(United_States)
