Unit History

The 485th Infantry Regiment was constituted as part of the United States Army during World War II. It was assigned to the 97th Infantry Division and activated on 25 February 1943 at Camp Swift, Texas. The regiment trained extensively in preparation for overseas deployment. In March 1945, the 485th Infantry Regiment deployed to Europe, where it participated in the Central Europe Campaign, advancing through Germany and contributing to the final defeat of Nazi forces. Following the end of hostilities in Europe, the regiment was redeployed to the Pacific Theater, arriving in Japan for occupation duties after the Japanese surrender.
