Unit History

The 45th Infantry Regiment was constituted on 15 May 1917 in the Regular Army and organized on 1 June 1917 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. The regiment was assigned to the 9th Division on 27 July 1918 and served as part of the division during World War I. Following the end of the war, the regiment was relieved from the 9th Division and inactivated on 30 September 1921 at Camp Travis, Texas. The 45th Infantry Regiment was later reactivated and served in various capacities, including assignments in the Philippines prior to World War II. During the Japanese invasion of the Philippines in 1941-1942, the regiment fought as part of the Philippine Division and was ultimately surrendered with the fall of Bataan in April 1942.
