Unit History

The 314th Engineer Battalion was constituted on 5 August 1917 in the National Army as the 314th Engineers and assigned to the 89th Division. It was organized on 27 August 1917 at Camp Funston, Kansas. The battalion served in France during World War I, participating in the Lorraine, St. Mihiel, and Meuse-Argonne campaigns. After the war, the unit was demobilized on 21 May 1919 at Camp Funston, Kansas. The battalion was reconstituted on 24 June 1921 in the Organized Reserves as the 314th Engineers and assigned again to the 89th Division. It was reorganized in 1921 at Wichita, Kansas. During World War II, the battalion was ordered into active military service on 15 July 1942 and reorganized at Camp Carson, Colorado. It participated in campaigns in Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. The unit was inactivated on 20 December 1945 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey.
