Unit History

The 31st Infantry Regiment was constituted on 1 July 1916 in the Regular Army and organized on 13 August 1916 at Fort William McKinley, Philippine Islands. The regiment saw its first combat during the Russian Civil War as part of the American Expeditionary Force Siberia from 1918 to 1920. During World War II, the 31st Infantry Regiment was assigned to the Philippine Division and fought in the defense of the Philippines, including the Battle of Bataan. Many members of the regiment were captured and endured the Bataan Death March. After World War II, the regiment was reactivated and served in the Korean War, participating in several major campaigns, including the defense of the Pusan Perimeter and the Chosin Reservoir.
