Unit History

The 302nd Engineer Regiment was constituted in the National Army on 5 August 1917 and organized at Camp Upton, New York. The regiment served as part of the 77th Division during World War I, participating in major campaigns including the Oise-Aisne, Meuse-Argonne, and Champagne campaigns. Following the end of World War I, the regiment was demobilized on 9 May 1919 at Camp Upton, New York. The unit was later reconstituted in the Organized Reserves in 1921 and assigned once again to the 77th Division. Throughout its service, the 302nd Engineer Regiment provided essential engineering support, including construction, fortification, and demolition tasks, contributing significantly to the division’s operational effectiveness during the war.
