The 270th Field Artillery Battalion was constituted on 14 July 1942 in the Army of the United States and activated on 25 August 1942 at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. The battalion served during World War II, participating in campaigns in the European Theater, including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. Following the end of the war, the 270th Field Artillery Battalion was inactivated on 27 November 1945 at Camp Patrick Henry, Virginia.
