Unit History

The 167th Infantry Regiment was originally organized in 1836 as the Alabama Volunteer Corps. It was mustered into federal service in 1861 as part of the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. After the war, the unit was reorganized in the Alabama National Guard. In 1917, it was redesignated as the 167th Infantry Regiment and assigned to the 42nd "Rainbow" Division for service in World War I, where it participated in major campaigns including Champagne-Marne, Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, and Champagne 1918. The regiment was demobilized in 1919 and later reorganized in the Alabama National Guard. During World War II, the 167th Infantry served as part of the 31st Infantry Division, participating in operations in the Pacific Theater, including New Guinea and the Southern Philippines campaigns. The regiment has continued to serve as part of the Alabama Army National Guard, with subsequent reorganizations and deployments in support of U.S. military operations. Sources: Wikipedia.
