Unit History

The 164th Field Artillery Battalion was constituted on 1 October 1933 in the National Guard as the 164th Field Artillery and allotted to the state of Colorado. It was organized and federally recognized on 1 July 1937 with headquarters at Denver, Colorado. The unit was inducted into federal service on 24 February 1941 at Denver. During World War II, the battalion was reorganized and redesignated on 1 March 1943 as the 164th Field Artillery Battalion, an element of the 44th Infantry Division. The battalion participated in campaigns in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. After the war, the unit was inactivated on 12 November 1945 at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas.
