Unit History

The 151st Field Artillery Battalion traces its origins to the Minnesota National Guard, with its lineage dating back to the early 20th century. The unit was originally organized as the 1st Battalion, Field Artillery, Minnesota National Guard, and was federally recognized in 1917. During World War I, it was redesignated as the 151st Field Artillery and assigned to the 42nd Division, participating in major campaigns in France. In World War II, the 151st Field Artillery Battalion was again federalized and served as part of the 34th Infantry Division. The battalion participated in campaigns in North Africa and Italy, including the Tunisian, Naples-Foggia, Anzio, Rome-Arno, North Apennines, and Po Valley campaigns. After the war, the unit was inactivated but later reorganized and returned to state control as part of the Minnesota Army National Guard. Throughout its history, the 151st Field Artillery Battalion has served with distinction in both world wars and continues its legacy as a key artillery unit within the Minnesota National Guard.
