The unit was redesignated as the 140th Field Artillery and assigned to the 35th Division. During World War II, the 140th Field Artillery Battalion was federalized and served in the European Theater, participating in several campaigns including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. After the war, the battalion was inactivated and later reorganized as part of the Missouri Army National Guard, continuing its tradition of service in both state and federal missions.
