Unit History
The 10th Coast Artillery Regiment was constituted on 27 February 1924 as part of the Regular Army and organized on 1 July 1924 at Fort Adams, Rhode Island. The regiment was responsible for the harbor defenses of Narragansett Bay, including Fort Adams, Fort Wetherill, and other installations. During World War II, the 10th Coast Artillery Regiment manned coastal artillery batteries and provided defense against potential naval threats along the northeastern seaboard. The regiment was inactivated on 1 April 1944, with its assets and personnel transferred to other harbor defense units as part of the Army’s reorganization of coastal defenses during the war.
